Let's Make New Prints!

Babes in the Woods Kickstarter:

This pre-sale Kickstarter lets you grab a large print for $20 and free shipping in the US! (It also helps me have inventory for the holidays, sshhhh! Don't tell.)

Holiday Shows are beginning to announce!

I've got my first confirmation for a new holiday show -- the Etsy Dallas Jingle Bash!

If you're in the DFW area Nov 21st, come say hi!

Mugs and Tote bags!

I've gone back and forth about print on demand sites, you know?
On the one hand, you're making your work available in a variety of forms and not having to carry inventory, but on the other, they get pirated regularly from overseas poster print outfits, which means you just lost complete control of some of your images.
Remember that line from News Radio? "You can't take something off the internet! That's like trying to take pee out of the pool!"

Anyway, I've put a couple things on Society6, and the response to the t-shirts and mugs has been super encouraging!

If you feel the need to bolster Hammonds ego or just want a pink giraffeicorn all over your morning coffee (or hell, maybe your shower curtain?) head over there and check it out. I'm especially pleased with how the wrap around image from The Stolen Child Tarot came out on the coffee mugs! All sales help me keep doing what I'm doing -- trying to finish that deck! :)

Also if you see these these images pop up on any other print on demand sites -- THEY WERE STOLEN.  (Please give me a heads up!)
It's that simple. Society6 is the only one I'm using. :)

Media Round up!

The Stolen Child Tarot has 39 patrons!

The latest on The Stolen Child Tarot is that I'm using Patreon to complete the artwork for the Minor Arcana!

To thank people who throw a little support behind me in this endeavor, I've got an exclusive work-in-progress sketchbook and some other cool rewards -- many of which are vanishing quickly! :)

Like original art? Want an original painting from the deck? There's a support level where you will get to choose a completed card painting! (Think of it like a win-win installment plan. You get original art and your support ensures that that art can get made!)

Right now the campaign has 39 supporters! I'm floored!  And already, new cards are being completed! You can see some of the new works below, but if you want an exclusive first look at everything, consider becoming a supporter!

I'm trying something new and I've just launched a Patreon campaign devoted to completing the artwork for The Stolen Child Tarot!

As many of you know, I'd love to complete the deck, but have been unable to devote myself to such a large project and pay the bills at the same time -- there's roughly 50 paintings remaining!
If this is a project you want and feel should be completed, please consider becoming a patron of the project!

You can check it out here:
I know Patreon is new to a lot of people (it was new to me!) so if you have questions, please send them my way!

Supporters will get exclusive access to the works in progress and behind the scenes as well as some cool thank yous!

I hope to get the word out during shows this December in the hopes of starting work in January -- Please help me spread the word!

Austin Craft Riot is taking us to CAMP!

Some gather round the campfire and have a s'more!  This year the Austin Craft Riot's Summer Show is taking us to camp!

I will be there with new prints and jewelry designs, but there's even more going on--

The 3rd Annual ACR Summer Show will be returning to the Austin Music Hall this August! Offering the best that Austin has to offer in addition to a number of fun activities to keep the whole family entertained and AIR CONDITIONING IN AUGUST, you're not going to want to miss this signature event.

We'll have the Austin Gelato and Taco Baby food trucks outside and a cash bar inside. On stage, Myo Massage will be returning with their luxurious chair massages, Crafty Girl will be running an advanced DIY craft, AND we'll have a video game area.

On the ground floor, joining our 70 talented vendors, Wonderlab will be helping older kids with their own fun DIY, and the Austin Craft Riot volunteers will have crafts suitable for the little ones. There will also be fun games for kids to play, including a scavenger hunt (there will be free prizes!).

All this plus air conditioning and awesome music. What else could you ask for?

Oh! And NO mosquitos!  It's even better than camp!!

Let's Make a Print Version of Magician's Cat, Okay?

So yep, I launched a campaign to try to fund a small printing of The Magician's Cat, my children's book.  The 20 day campaign had a great first day!

A $13 pledge gets you a copy of the book, signed and sketched in, and if we reach our stretch goal to increase the print run, everyone will also get a bonus!  Here's the link:

The Magician's Cat is Ready!

My children's ebook is now available for download in multi formats!

And I'm working hard to launch a campaign for a PRINT edition later this week!

Please Adopt a Demon. It's the right thing to do.

It is with a heavy heart that I report today that I have opened an adoption program for the demons.  I've never liked the term 'hoarder' -- I've always preferred  'rescuer' but, either way, my neighbors, the HOA and the more timid of the garbage men are having their way and I've been told they have to go.

I hope you'll consider opening your home to one of these deserving entities and love or at least tolerate them as much as I have.  Click the big guy for the link.

Projects and Goals for 2014

Projects and Goals for 2014

Yesterday was my birthday, so that was my official start
to 2014, and this year I have three big things I'm working
to accomplish. :)
  • The Magician's Cat, both ebook AND a print edition
  • A support campaign to continue art on Stolen Child Tarot
  • A second collected art book of my demons, The Lost Key to Infernal Spirits of the New World
Read on for details on each!
Artwork for Magician's Cat is a whisker away from complete!
I should be done by mid March and have the ebook formatted
and available (FREE!) for all by early April!  Also after a little
research with a printer here in Austin, and due to popular
demand, I'm going to try to put out a PRINT edition!
I will be Kickstarting that in late April, and the campaign will

offer opportunities to grab some of the original art from the
book as well as other goodies! In the spirit of the original
project, copies of the print edition will also go to Central
Texas SPCA for fundraising!

For those following the Monster Project... I have a confession to make...
 they aren't monsters.  They're demons.
And I have too many of them.
I can't even begin to list all the places they arrive from or how
many just wander in.  It starts with one or two and the next
thing you know your place is packed.  I'm not a hoarder --
 I prefer the term 'rescuer'.
Anyway, the neighbors are complaining, so I've made the hard decision
to start adopting them out.  In fact, I'm going to start this Friday, March 7th.
Adoption fees I hope will cover my other art book project,
The Lost Key to Infernal Spirits of the New World, a book of 72
portraits of my favorite of these homeless horrors.
Friday a special email bulletin will go out to those interested in adoption.
You've been warned.

The Future of The Stolen Child Tarot

Good News!  In the next couple of months, I will be launching
a Patreon campaign devoted 100% to the completion
of The Stolen Child Tarot.

What is Patreon?
It's a project site allowing creators to connect with people who
want to be a patron of their work.  It's goal is to assist creators with
long term funding for larger/longer creative endeavors --
you can check out their site here, but in short I would be setting goals
of completing one or more of the remaining 50 cards per month and
asking those interested to pledge $1-$2 a month in exchange for
behind the scenes news, sneak peeks of progress and whatever
other goodies I can come up with.

I truly want to continue Stolen Child at the level of quality
I've put in so far and I feel that the Patreon campaign is a
great option to support such a large endeavor.

I hope you'll check it out when I bring it live and consider supporting
the deck! :)
And last but not least, I'm running a Spring sale on some of my
acrylic pieces in my etsy shop!

Time for some Infernal Monsters...

'Cause they need to stretch their legs, tentacles and what have you...

Commission and Artist for Hire Info

Commission Rates:

As of January 1st, I am no longer able to take pet portrait or other single commission work.  I need to catch up/complete my current projects, so I'm not able to schedule waiting list slots right now either.  Thank you so much for your understanding.  I will update here when I get caught up and start taking on new jobs.  You can also check my etsy shop - I will begin listing pet portrait openings there when they become available.

Book Illustration Info and Rates:

**Please Read**  I do not do any illustration work on spec.
What is spec?  If you've written (or are planning to write) a children's book, fantasy novel, gaming module, etc and are looking for an artist to illustrate it before you self publish or submit it for commercial publication and plan for the artist to be paid out of royalties -- that is spec.  Your project may be fantastic, but unfortunately I don't have a time machine to buy my groceries. :)

I will consider publication contracts that allow some advance on royalties to allow me to begin work, or in the case of self published or smaller projects, 50% of the negotiated payment for the completed project up front.

Ballpark Rates
Pencils - $50-$80 for half to full page
Pen and Ink - $100-300 for quarter page to full page
Full color - $200-$450 for quarter page to full page

Rates are negotiable for multi-illustration projects and depending on number of figures, detail, complexity of content.  Feel free to email me with specifics if you'd like to discuss an estimate.

New Jewelry Designs, New Kickstarter!

Couldn't stand NOT doing the second winged monkey design from my last Kickstarter, and was super itching to do some designs in colored wood and acrylic, so....

I just launched a NEW CAMPAIGN!  Click the Flying Monkey to take a look!!!

Monsters! Monkeys! August Shows!

I am wrapping up assembly on my new jewelry designs and getting ready to send out Kickstarter rewards!  Also, the new pieces will be unveiled at the Austin Craft Riot's Summer Show this August 17th and 18th at Austin Music Hall.  If you're in the Austin area, you should check it out -- there will be tons of handmade, Swag bags given away to the first 24 entrants each day, Yeti Frozen Custard will be there, it's family friendly and FREE!  Come say 'hi'!

The Bee and the Raven pieces were designs produced by the Kickstarter campaign, but I'd like to put some unusual variations into production too -- sort of a small batch/special edition type of thing.  The Winged Monkey with beads below is a gussied up prototype, but I've decided it will be the first of the variations to produce.  I hope to have it and another new design out by the Summer Show!  Also, be on the lookout for my seahorse/hippocampus in sea glass colored acrylic, and white wood editions of the Skeleton Key and Soaring Heart Designs.  I'm looking at options to fund their production for the Christmas show season!

The round winged monkey design looks like a batch of cookies, doesn't it? :)

Oh, and did I mention the weekend after ACR Summer Show is Here There Be Monsters Con?  This mini-con will be at Vuka on S 1st in Austin and will feature monsters, game demos, pro special effects make-up artists, monsters, local authors and artists and did I mention MONSTERS?  I've been hatching new ones as quick as I can for the event.  Here's one now...
