This Sunday I'll be at Here There Be Monsters Con! Come say Hi!
"It's here, slithering out of its dank den and rising back up with a vengeance: Here There Be Monsters Con! This year we are bringing you our new event, Kai-Drew #1 Fight Time featuring artists Nick Pitarra (Red Wing, Manhattan Projects) and Matt Frank (Godzilla); a Sideshow Freak-Out Extravaganza; a dystopian master session with Darker Sho, where you will get to see YOUR story turned into a web comic; a delicious Bug Fest where you will learn how to turn backyard pests into delicious party hor d'ourves; a session of Testify, Austin's own tell-all story group; and our new From Out of the Dark horror film fest will be presenting the semi-finalists and finalists from this year. Apart from our regular programming, there will be a Magic: The Gathering tournament, with prizes from Outlaw Moon; game demos such as Golem Arcana (SOOOO COOL!!!), dozens of game, toy, comic, and craft vendors, plus food and a full bar. So come early, and stay for the day!"
I will be there with new prints and jewelry designs, but there's even more going on--
The 3rd Annual ACR Summer Show will be returning to the Austin Music Hall this August! Offering the best that Austin has to offer in addition to a number of fun activities to keep the whole family entertained and AIR CONDITIONING IN AUGUST, you're not going to want to miss this signature event.
We'll have the Austin Gelato and Taco Baby food trucks outside and a cash bar inside. On stage, Myo Massage will be returning with their luxurious chair massages, Crafty Girl will be running an advanced DIY craft, AND we'll have a video game area.
On the ground floor, joining our 70 talented vendors, Wonderlab will be helping older kids with their own fun DIY, and the Austin Craft Riot volunteers will have crafts suitable for the little ones. There will also be fun games for kids to play, including a scavenger hunt (there will be free prizes!).
All this plus air conditioning and awesome music. What else could you ask for?
Oh! And NO mosquitos! It's even better than camp!!
It is with a heavy heart that I report today that I have opened an adoption program for the demons. I've never liked the term 'hoarder' -- I've always preferred 'rescuer' but, either way, my neighbors, the HOA and the more timid of the garbage men are having their way and I've been told they have to go.
I hope you'll consider opening your home to one of these deserving entities and love or at least tolerate them as much as I have. Click the big guy for the link.
Yesterday was my birthday, so that was my official start to 2014, and this year I have three big things I'm working to accomplish. :)
The Magician's Cat, both ebook AND a print edition
A support campaign to continue art on Stolen Child Tarot
A second collected art book of my demons, The Lost Key to Infernal Spirits of the New World
Read on for details on each!
Artwork for Magician's Cat is a whisker away from complete! I should be done by mid March and have the ebook formatted and available (FREE!) for all by early April! Also after a little research with a printer here in Austin, and due to popular demand, I'm going to try to put out a PRINT edition! I will be Kickstarting that in late April, and the campaign will offer opportunities to grab some of the original art from the book as well as other goodies! In the spirit of the original project, copies of the print edition will also go to Central Texas SPCA for fundraising!
For those following the Monster Project... I have a confession to make...
they aren't monsters. They're demons.
And I have too many of them.
I can't even begin to list all the places they arrive from or how
many just wander in. It starts with one or two and the next
thing you know your place is packed. I'm not a hoarder --
I prefer the term 'rescuer'.
Anyway, the neighbors are complaining, so I've made the hard decision
to start adopting them out. In fact, I'm going to start this Friday, March 7th.
Adoption fees I hope will cover my other art book project, The Lost Key to Infernal Spirits of the New World, a book of 72
portraits of my favorite of these homeless horrors.
Friday a special email bulletin will go out to those interested in adoption.
You've been warned.
The Future of The Stolen Child Tarot
Good News! In the next couple of months, I will be launching
a Patreon campaign devoted 100% to the completion
of The Stolen Child Tarot.
What is Patreon?
It's a project site allowing creators to connect with people who
want to be a patron of their work. It's goal is to assist creators with
long term funding for larger/longer creative endeavors -- you can check out their site here, but in short I would be setting goals
of completing one or more of the remaining 50 cards per month and
asking those interested to pledge $1-$2 a month in exchange for
behind the scenes news, sneak peeks of progress and whatever
other goodies I can come up with.
I truly want to continue Stolen Child at the level of quality I've put in so far and I feel that the Patreon campaign is a great option to support such a large endeavor.
I hope you'll check it out when I bring it live and consider supporting
the deck! :)
And last but not least, I'm running a Spring sale on some of my acrylic pieces in my etsy shop!
As of January 1st, I am no longer able to take pet portrait or other single commission work. I need to catch up/complete my current projects, so I'm not able to schedule waiting list slots right now either. Thank you so much for your understanding. I will update here when I get caught up and start taking on new jobs. You can also check my etsy shop - I will begin listing pet portrait openings there when they become available.
Book Illustration Info and Rates:
**Please Read** I do not do any illustration work on spec.
What is spec? If you've written (or are planning to write) a children's book, fantasy novel, gaming module, etc and are looking for an artist to illustrate it before you self publish or submit it for commercial publication and plan for the artist to be paid out of royalties -- that is spec. Your project may be fantastic, but unfortunately I don't have a time machine to buy my groceries. :)
I will consider publication contracts that allow some advance on royalties to allow me to begin work, or in the case of self published or smaller projects, 50% of the negotiated payment for the completed project up front.
Pencils - $50-$80 for half to full page
Pen and Ink - $100-300 for quarter page to full page
Full color - $200-$450 for quarter page to full page
Rates are negotiable for multi-illustration projects and depending on number of figures, detail, complexity of content. Feel free to email me with specifics if you'd like to discuss an estimate.
I did most of my load in today and I'll be finishing up tomorrow. Friday night will be the grand opening party. If you want to give handmade, there are some amazing artists and artisan crafters at this show well worth checking out!
I'm still cooking away working on The Magician's Cat, my free online children's book. For Halloween, I've just compiled a bunch of the black and white illustrations into coloring pages. They are in pdf and FREE for you to download and print for your kids or yourself!
They're hiding right through this link: Magician’s Cat Coloring Book https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5gn_WvYurAuUlI2QnNvS295S2M/edit
Also, I'm having a Halloween sale in my Etsy shop!
Use code "TrickRTreat" and get 15% off decks, prints, my new jewelry -- the whole schmoodle!
I am wrapping up assembly on my new jewelry designs and getting ready to send out Kickstarter rewards! Also, the new pieces will be unveiled at the Austin Craft Riot's Summer Show this August 17th and 18th at Austin Music Hall.If you're in the Austin area, you should check it out -- there will be tons of handmade, Swag bags given away to the first 24 entrants each day, Yeti Frozen Custard will be there, it's family friendly and FREE! Come say 'hi'!
The Bee and the Raven pieces were designs produced by the Kickstarter campaign, but I'd like to put some unusual variations into production too -- sort of a small batch/special edition type of thing. The Winged Monkey with beads below is a gussied up prototype, but I've decided it will be the first of the variations to produce. I hope to have it and another new design out by the Summer Show! Also, be on the lookout for my seahorse/hippocampus in sea glass colored acrylic, and white wood editions of the Skeleton Key and Soaring Heart Designs. I'm looking at options to fund their production for the Christmas show season!
The round winged monkey design looks like a batch of cookies, doesn't it? :)
I've just completed two pendant designs in engraved wood!
I pictured these as possibly companion pieces for two people to share, but they totally standup all on their own too. I've been wanting to play around with translating some of my pen and ink work into laser engraving since the results is so exact. Originally I hoped the first design would be the brooch I was working on as a reward for The Stolen Child Tarot. When that didn't work out, I went in a different direction.
Hopefully I'll be adding some more designs in the near future! Right now these two are available in my etsy shop here!
Here's my full custom shop pack for Crescent City Couture!
Do you need a matching shop pack for Etsy or Facebook? I am offering a full pack starting at $300!
Etsy Shop Banner
Up to 3 Shop Banner Variations (vacation, sale announcements, etc)
1-2 Profile Avatars
Up to 10 matching shop buttons - you choose the message
Business Card design
What you provide:
Email me samples of shops whose looks you admire to give me an idea of flavor.
I can use and color match clip art that is 300 dpi -- take a look at digital scrapbook pieces and let me know what you're thinking. Many digital images are under $5.
Color scheme! Crescent City Couture's entire color scheme was based on the clip art of the feathered mask.
Show me some fonts you like!
Some time to review samples and give me feedback - Be ready to email back and forth to make adjustments and get things just right.
If you have a lovely collage idea in your head, I can help bring it to life and format it into matching shop components! While I can adjust to some degree existing clip art, this work does not include creating original art from scratch or vector logo design.
Have a smaller project? I can do spot adjustments for $20 an hour.
I recently did a quick conversion for Marci who needed rubber stamp designs created from low resolution jpegs off her sticker and Etsy banner components. This involved some clean-up, art tweaking and layout, but now she has high resolution files suitable for making custom rubber stamps!
This will allow her to stamp her brand on fabrics...
...and this one will let her stamp stationary, invoices and the back of her business cards.
Let me know what you need and I'll give you an estimate!
It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it... This is my first color two page spread for the book and the first of the custom critter rewards fulfilled! Still truckin'! How many days till Halloween? ^-^
Only 2 weeks left on the Kickstarter for Stolen Child Tarot and it's at 23% funding. That's a big gap to close. If you want to see this deck come to fruition, please consider pledging or sharing the campaign!
